Description
An account of the resource
Frank Cockney is storytelling for future generations to hear. Frank is telling stories about when he started running his business, of the trials and errors of learning how to run a business, of trapping with Eddy, of his previous Heavy Equipment training that came in handy when reparing the bombadier, and of opening roads with the bomadier due to having knowledge of the land and rivers. Joe Nasogaluk then explains the history of each of the drum songs, then sings the drum songs. Frank then continues telling stories of his hunting and trapping days when he was younger prior to skidoos using dog teams, then the arrival of the first types of skidoos, of the challenges of using skidoos and a bombadier, of his and other’s travels, of the nomadic lifestyle long ago of families living amongst each other or by themselves, living in tents, of staple food, of everything being taken from their old cabin, of going to Tuktoyaktuk, of Herring Fish and Beluga Whales arriving, of the different dialects of Inuvialuit that he can switch back and forth to, of the Inuktitut language in Iqaluit, of when the oil companies first arrived with the all the money, with the life of ease, and the lifestyle changes that came from living in a community versus the traditional lifestyle of hunting and trapping, and the obesity that followed with the spoiled that the modern lifestyle brought. Part 27 and part 28. To be continued.
